Black Diamond

The curse of the black diamond- Ibshar Rahman

The curse of the black diamond

There is a strange rumour that runs around the geologist world. Many geologists have tried their hardest to find out any possible data about this, what may be it you may ask? It is the black diamond. It is known for its beauty and is said that it just came out of the blue, No one knows where this jewel originated or came from. Many say that is the cause of karma. It is also said that the jewel gives out weird fumes resulting in death in a couple of weeks or days, If the victim had not died then they would be hit with a long time period of pain and sicknesses.

This Amazing looking gem is now stored in a Museum in Los Angeles. This gem became so popular that there is even a movie made on it, and that is was the start of my problems.

The movie was released on a hot summer day (Friday the 13th to be exact). The movie’s plot was a man that had attempted to hold a heist for the jewel. He had no idea about the rumour. Surprisingly he had succeeded in the theft. Not too long after that he was in a car crash and was then hit by cancer, after that he had died.

A friend of mine wanted to do the exact same thing as the main character did. He had completely ignored all the unfortunate events that had happened. “I am going to do a heist on the black diamond, I am just not going to make the same mistakes that the main character did.” He declared.

I laughed along with him thinking what he had said was a joke, I was wrong. The next day we met up at the park where he showed me a map of the museum and the times there would be shifts. The map was very detailed and even showed secret areas that I did not even know existed.

“How did you get all of this?” I asked. I was completely shocked.

“I know people.” He said with a mischievous grin. I tried reasoning with him and told him about the curse, perhaps he didn’t understand the message the movie was trying to show.

“Thank you for letting me know where I can improve my plan in.” Was his response.

I rolled my eyes and did a mental facepalm. On Monday I was doing the finishing touches to my story. He walked up to me delicately holding a few sheets of paper. He placed the papers right next to me. I knew that it must have been a few of his drawings. “Nice drawings,” I said not paying the slightest attention to the sketches.

“I am glad that you liked the sketches of the outfits that we are going to wear when we hold the heist.” He said happily.

I slowly turned my head towards him and glanced between the papers and him. I then took a few seconds to respond. ”Are you serious? I am done hearing stupid crap on the gem, Look if you are going to do this than you are on your own.”

I figured that there was no point reasoning with him seeing as he had been talking about this for the past few days. He simply nodded and walked off, I really hoped that I didn’t hurt his feelings.

After that, I haven’t seen him outside of school, and he had been absent for the past three weeks in school. No one knew where he had gone until the monthly new paper came out. I read it during the morning before I left for school. What I had read had left me in shock.

Kevin Watterson, age 12 had recently attempted theft. The object he had tried to gain was none other than the black diamond. Kevin did his best to flee the crime scene but was brutally injured by a car, sadly he couldn’t make it through.

A week after that Kevin was supposed to be having his funeral done but his mother had passed away in a car crash. His cousin which lives all the way in East London had injured both of his legs terribly and his father was diagnosed with cancer. Maybe the curse of the black diamond was true, What do you think?
